I usually eat around 800-1000 calories in a day - thats jaguar's theory out the window for me lol!
(wish it would work though)
i was surprised to see that there are 330 calories in 2 handfulls of peanuts, and 440 calories in a big daddy cookie that i eat every day.. i'm not overweight, far from it, but i weigh 15 lbs more than i did 10 years ago.
back then i was a little too slim.
i would like to lose just 5 lbs in the stomach area especially, not more, so that should be easy, right.. .

this week's borg-assigned bible reading was mark, chapter 1-4. and of course, we had a real hard-liner make a comment about how our "real family" are the jws at the kingdom hall.. ***********************.
32 as it was, a crowd was sitting around him, so they said to him: "look!
your mother and your brothers outside are seeking you.
I dunno if this helps but having read a couple of commentaries on these verses - the context was that his mother and brothers had turned up to take him home because they thought he'd gone crazy so his stern rebuttal is usually understood in that context - he knew what he was on earth to do, his earthly family were trying to obstruct or end his mission so he was saying that effectively, his 'real' family are those who work with him rather than against him.
Also, the fact that he was sitting down is apparently significant - he was acting as a rabbi/teacher rather than preaching, which would lend more weight to one's words - he wasn't speaking facts/set truth, only using a kind of 'example' teaching to get his real point across.
Maybe a very loose analogy may be found among ex-JWs here whose blood relatives and old 'friends' now shun them, many of you have found 'real' family here or amongst other exes. Who are your real mother and brothers - the ones shunning you or the ones who accept you as you are and care about you?

Ok wings, c'mere!
I'm gonna be out of a job at the end of next week, not sure how I'll pay the bills. Fortunately I have mortgage insurance so I won't have to worry about the biggest bill. Other than that, I'll get paid about £55 (US$110) per week to pay for all the other stuff like food and utility bills - so pass me the fork when you're done with it lol!
Seriously, I'm sorry for the loss of your dad, and your mum having a stroke too - hopefully they'll be able to rehab her and get her speech back. Finally your sister won't talk to you - that's her loss, she's doing it to provoke a reaction from you - I know its hard but try not to give her what she wants - then you'll find yourself smiling at how pissed off she gets!!
We'll both come through our trials, just hang in there if that's all you can do for now
if the biblical commands are to be followed, and god's morality outweighs or controls our own, i must say i feel the law about not working on the sabbath seems to be ignored for the most part.. some of the laws found in the ot have now been set aside by many christians - not stoning disobedient children, for example.
believers may show how jesus' arrival on earth fulfilled certain rules which only applied to the jews of the time.. can the same be said for the sabbath law?
it still appears in the ten commandments, and i was under the impression those rules had to be followed today.. if all sins are equal, it's a little odd how we don't hear of any groups picketing at supermarkets every week with signs saying 'god hates sabbath workers'.
It seems to be talking about burnt offerings, not the Sabbath. I can agree there are verses in the NT that seem to nullify the commandments to do with burnt offerings. I thought the Sabbath day was supposed to be a benefit to the people, not a sacrifice.
You're doing here exactly what Jesus condemned the Pharisees for, and what my main point was about! You've taken the verse literally, as it is written and failed to apply it! Actually, this verse from Hosea was quoted by Jesus in Matthew's (?) version of Jesus' disciples picking corn on the Sabbath - he applied it, to that particular situation not only as it was written.
If you want a layman's interpretation of Hosea 6:6, try something like this - sure, obey the rules, but get your priorities right! God would rather have you worship Him by bringing honour to His name through giving a good witness in your life (by serving and being right with others etc) than all the rituals, church services etc which, whilst they are useful and appreciated by God, should not constitute the sole practice of your religion.
I believe that's what Jesus meant when he said believers would no longer worship in set places but in spirit and in truth - even more so because there is no longer a need for sacrifice either.
Exactly. The rule was made for man.
I don't understand why you chose to chop off the second part "not man for the Sabbath" Jesus meant that the Sabbath was made for man's benefit (which he is quite free to ignore at his peril!) NOT so that man had a law to obey rigidly. When he said that he was Lord over the Sabbath, he was making a statement of both his humanity and his divinity (implied by the linking word "so"). If I wanted to go really broad theology, I could also suggest that since Christians are 'in Christ' they too become, by association, 'lords of the sabbath'!
If it's written in the Bible, shouldn't it be followed?
Again - "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life"
I could use my spirit to say that homosexuality is fine, and the Bible had it wrong.
That would be using YOUR spirit, not God's - there's a huge difference. And yes, that's why some churches get it wrong, horribly wrong.
i have read a lot of posts since coming to this site and a lot of you dont seem to have a realistic view of god.
so tell me who do you think he is?.
please keep your comments simple and to the point .
silence from real one?
For you, real one, in case you're concerned by the ideas of God posted here, as far as I can remember you believe that Jesus is part of the Godhead. This is a scripture from Colossians which backs the belief of God as being everything/in everything:
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
so don't worry, our concepts maybe aren't that far away from the truth!
